How to apply for EDGAR codes so I can file my Form C?
In all of the excitement to utilize the new crowdfunding regulations, a few technical details may be overlooked. For one thing, the SEC’s Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval or EDGAR system is quite antiquated and requires preparation prior to simply filing a Form C, which is the document required to launch a Title III Regulation Crowdfunding offering. For those of you not versed in the ins and outs of EDGAR protocol – here is a brief tutorial on how to apply for and receive the filer codes that you need BEFORE you can file a document (including your Form C) with the SEC.
First go to this page and click “Press Here to Begin”
On the next page (which we cannot link to) click “Apply for EDGAR Access (New)” in the upper left corner.
You will then see a form that you need to fill out. You may want to consult your attorney for some of the questions. Once you fill it out you need to print it out, sign it and get it notarized. Then you scan it and upload it to the form and click submit.
You should receive your access codes (following the instructions EDGAR provides regarding retrieval and the use of you password and other codes) within one to five business days.
Helpful tips are to remember EDGAR is only open from 6AM to 10PM ET and that it doesn’t like Safari or Chrome so you should stick to Firefox and Explorer (Edge if you are using Windows 10) as your browsers.
